
the above was created using a combination of hand drawn boundaries and algorithmically determined filling (adapted from the algorithm outlined by Kenny Vaden here):
- each bounded subregion had 150 random points generated inside of it
- some additional points were added to select regions based on preference
- each of the points in every subregion was connected to its closest 20 neighboring points
- in some cases, connections crossing the shape’s outline was not allowed. in others, it was encouraged
the design was finalized after a couple years of periodic consideration, attempting to find a design with personal meaning that captures the following large ideas:
- mathematics: specifically complex systems, information theory, and self-organization
- neuroscience and biomechanics, especially biological systems and hierarchies of systems
- mental expansion via a wide range of experiences
- generative art
